Painful Lessons

I’ll admit to feeling like a complete idiot today. I somehow managed, even after checking my pants pockets, to run my flash drive through both the washer and the dryer. Yes, you read right. And yes, the drive is quite dead.

Unfortunately, so are all the very nice pictures of all my new jewelry pieces that I’d taken. There are a very few still around, but only because those pieces were uploaded to my Etsy shop a few weeks ago.

In the meantime, I’ll have to find a day where I’m home early enough to take advantage of the sun and redo all of my photos.

And I’ve purchased a new flash drive, one that’s not as skinny, brighter in color (the old one was black and flat, the new one is white and purple), and attached it to a lanyard in the hopes of not doing this again.

Papillon Necklace/Pendant

I have a necklace that was entered into the Employee Art Contest and is on display at Duke University Hospital North, in the Mars Gallery.

The title of the necklace is Papillon and will be on display until October 2nd.

Welcome to Simply Twisted!

Simply Twisted Designs is the creation of me, Joy Whitfield. I work hard to produce beautiful, unique jewelry, made from high quality gemstones and precious metal wire. I started creating jewelry almost two years ago now. Over the first year, I played around with different styles of jewelry making before finally settling on wire-wrapped jewelry.

According to Wikipedia:

“Wire wrapping is one of the oldest techniques for making jewelry by hand. In wire wrapping, jewelry is made using jewelry wire and findings similar to wire (like head-pins) to make components. Wire components are then connected to one another using mechanical techniques with no soldering or heating of the wire.”

I would like to eventually learn to solder wire and metal, as well, but for the moment, creating without soldering is very satisfying.

In this blog, I plan on posting interesting tidbits and articles about jewelry creation: how I get my ideas, the stones I choose, and how I create my jewelry, along with pictures of finished pieces.
